Film music composer Johann Johannsson has died at the age of 48, his manager has confirmed.

His manager Tim Huson said in a statement: ‘I’m so very sad. Today, I lost my friend who was one of the most talented musicians and intelligent people I knew. We came a long way together.’

The cause of Johannsson’s death is currently unknown.

Johannsson was behind the score for such films as Sicario and The Theory Of Everything, for which he won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Oscar for best original score.

His work also includes Nerve, Arrival – which brought him a Golden Globe – and Foxcatcher.

Most recently he worked on Darren Aronofsky’s latest work Mother! which starred Jennifer Lawrence.

The director paid tribute in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, saying: ‘Johann was a gentleman. He was a brilliant collaborator with a wholly unique approach to sound and music. This is a terrible loss.’

He added on Twitter that he is ‘devastated’ by the news.

Elijah Wood also paid tribute to the composer, who wrote the soundtrack for Mandy, a film Wood produced.

He tweeted: ‘So distraught and saddened to hear of Johann’s passing. He was such an extraordinary composer and artist.’
