If we were Mel Owen, wed be mightily suspicious of Ray Kelly too. The suave EastEnders newcomer is shiftier than the lead speaker at a spy convention and he has been gaslighting Mel by insisting that her accusations are all in her head to boot.
But Mel isnt exactly being completely taken in by him despite his attempts to make her feel guilty for questioning him. That said, she decides that its not a good idea to accept information that Jack Branning has gathered on her behalf.
She had paid him to do some digging but tonight, she meets him and says she doesnt want the envelope he is carrying. However, Ray is watching from afar and fuming that Mel is going behind his back.
When she admits that she had paid Jack to look into him, they end up in a furious argument. Rather than feeling in the wrong though, this only heightens Mels suspicions and she starts to wonder once more.
And as the pieces all start to fit together in her mind, she comes to a realisation and this then leads to the shocking discovery of what he has been hiding from her. Is he still working as an undercover policeman? Is he involved in a secret life of crime? Or is Mel about to stumble upon something else?
With Ray having previously been referred to as Simon by a man called Jeff, who Ray beat up and got rid of, there is a lot amiss here and he doesnt want Mel to find out, thats for sure.
She is left with a decision to make and, by the end of the week, she has a surprise proposition for Ray. But is everything as it seems? And will this all spell the end for their complicated relationship?
EastEnders continues on Thursday 11th October at 7:30pm on BBC One.
