Just a year after releasing his sophomore album Activated, Tee Grizzley is back with a new LP Scriptures – and this time hes got Timbaland with him.
Enlisting the help of the world renowned hitmaker for most of the project, Grizzley has already had success with some of the music projects early releases including Gods Warrior, Locked Up and Sweet Thangs.
Having been very open in his music about his criminal past and life struggles, Scriptures is already expected to reveal another layer to the Detroit rapper who named his album as reminder of how he wants to live his life.
Speaking in an interview with the Power 106s L.A Leakers he said: The title of the album, so when I think of scriptures, I think of words to live by.
I think of scriptures, based on what I believe, I think of the truth. And thats what I hear when I hear my music.
Timberlands signature beat-box styled beats definitely dont go amiss on Grizzleys new project. But while the album remains consistent on the production side, Grizzley shows versitility with his melodic autotune and rhythmic bars.
The 25-year-old lyracists single Locked Up in particular was labelled as powerful and emotive by fans, as the hip hop star opened up about the effects that gun violance and the criminal justice service have had on his life growing up.
The youngster, who also acts and writes, dedicated the song to his mother Latoya Perry who is currently serving a life sentence in prison for drug trafficking.
Timberland, who reportedly met Grizzley during a Kanye West studio session in Miami last year, recently shared his thoughts on the rapper on social media.
In an Instagram post, the producer said: This guy make you see it and feel it before playing a clip of the stars music for his fans.
The music hitmaker who has worked with artists such as Justin Timberlake, Missy Elliot, Rihanna, Jay-Z and Aaliyah, started off by saying: Ive worked with everybody, I can say.
And for a new generation, Im starting to work with a lot of yall. But this one particular person I worked with go by the name of Tee Grizzley.
Now I heard First Day Out, which was dope. But hearing a song and working with an artist , you dont really know how dope they are.
Timbaland continued saying: Its been a long time since somebody made me ask questions after I hear a song, or after I hear them rap.
Grizzley also enlists the help of A Boogie Wit da Hoodie and YNW Melly for the final song on the 14-track album, for the song Young Grizzley World.
