Mel Owen is a woman on a mission in EastEnders as the exit of Ben Mitchell has left her back to square one when it comes to the case of the missing money. With Ben having discovered that the money was missing from his case and replaced with newspapers, Mel insists to Ciara Maguire that he had the cash when she left him but she is unsure.

Mel is forced to do some more digging and, recalling the necklace worn by Kathy Beale that Ben bought, Kathy watches her from afar to see if she is in touch with her son. With Phil still in hiding after the heist, Mel questions Kathy to see what she knows.

When Donna Yates then interrupts Mel as she continues her spying, Mel realises that she used to share a flat with Ben which gives Mel an idea – will she find anything as she does some more searching around Ben’s last movements before he left for Calais?

As Mel seems on the brink of giving up hope, she meets up with Ciara again and the criminal is starting to get impatient over the whereabouts of her loot. As she instructs Mel to try harder, she suggests another avenue in Walford to investigate.

With Ciara having a hold over Mel in relation to her 15-year-old son Hunter, Mel has little choice but to comply – and it seems as if she will never be free of this until she solves the case of the missing money.

But will Ciara’s new suggestion yield results from Mel or is the person who has the cash set to remain one step ahead?
