Star Wars’ Adam Driver didn’t mind being topless in The Last Jedi as director ‘knew he’d look good’
As we approach Christmas Day, there’s only one thing on some film fans’ minds: Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
As intergalactic fever grips the nation, it seems that (without giving much away) the film contains all the usual SW ingredients; light sabers, an evil empire and of course, The Force.
So fans of ex-US Marine Adam Driver – who plays dark side warlord Kylo Ren in the film – weren’t expecting a topless Driver to be facing them from the cinema screen – and he didn’t mind getting his kit off either.
In the scene, Kylo and Rey (played by Daisy Ridley) are having an intimate, intense conversation, where the former surprises the latter by appearing topless.
Speaking to People, director Rian Johnson – who was recently signed up for a further three films in the franchise by Disney – said the appearance of a half-naked, dark side inductee would only add to the fear and intensity for Rey.

‘It’s all about those Force connection scenes. The keyword being intimacy. And the idea that this was a way to just, why not step that up?
‘The idea that, what’s even more uncomfortable having a conversation face to face with a person you don’t want to, is if they’re half-naked during it, while you’re having to do it.
‘And so it was just another way of kind of disrobing Kylo literally and figuratively a little bit more, and pushing that sense of these conversations becoming increasingly more intimate.’
‘Adam looks so damn good because he’d been training hardcore for the past six months for those fight scenes. I’m like, “Eh. He looks so good. We should put him up there”,’ continued Rian.
And did the Logan Lucky star kick up a fuss about the eye catching scene?
‘No, no, he’s good. He’s great,’ assures Johnson. ‘He knew he looked good.’
The Last Jedi is taking over the world right now, raking in $450m (£337m) on its opening weekend, and it’s jam-packed with celeb cameos including Ellie Goulding, Edgar Wright, and Princes Harry and William. It even has the seal of approval from Star Wars creator George Lucas.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is out in UK cinemas now.
